This notice is provided pursuant to art. 122 of D.lgs. 196/2003 (the Italian Personal Data Protection Code), to Directive 2002/58/EC as amended by Directive 2009/136/EC (“ePrivacy”), to Articles 13 and 14 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and to the Guidelines on cookies and other tracking tools adopted by the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (the Italian Data Protection Authority) by decision no. 231 of 10 June 2021.
1. In short: this website uses no cookies
We would rather say it straight away and without hedging: the website villacassandracastellana.com installs no cookies at all, neither its own nor third-party ones. We use no technical session cookies, we use no analytics cookies, we use no profiling cookies, we use no tracking pixels, we use no device fingerprinting, we use no web beacons and we have installed no statistics tool such as Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or the like.
The website also loads no resources from third-party domains: everything needed to display the pages, including the typefaces, is hosted on our own domain. Full details are given in section 5.
The only piece of information that may be stored on your device is your language preference, saved in your browser's local storage only if you choose to select it, as explained in section 4. This is a strictly technical tool which does not require your consent.
2. What cookies and local storage tools are
Cookies are small text files that the websites you visit send to the user's browser, where they are stored and from which they are sent back to those same websites on the next visit. They are commonly divided into technical cookies, which are necessary for the website to work or to provide a service explicitly requested, and profiling cookies, which are designed to build up a picture of the user's habits and preferences in order to send targeted advertising. Only the latter, and more generally non-necessary cookies, require the user's prior, freely given and informed consent.
Alongside cookies there are other local storage tools made available by modern browsers, in particular Web Storage in its two forms, localStorage and sessionStorage, and IndexedDB databases. Unlike cookies, these data remain on the user's device and are not sent automatically to the server with every request. They are nonetheless subject to the same rules as cookies as regards the duty to inform and, where they are not strictly necessary, to obtain consent.
3. Cookies used by this website: none
First-party technical cookies: none. The website consists of static pages, requires no login, has no shopping basket, has no members' area and manages no user sessions.
Analytics cookies: none. We collect no visitor statistics, either directly or through third-party services.
Profiling, marketing and third-party cookies: none. There is no embedded content that would install cookies: no interactive map, no embedded video, no social widget, no externally loaded review system, no advertising network.
Accordingly, there is no list of cookies to consult and no preference to withdraw.
4. Local storage: the language preference
The website is available in Italian, English and French. To avoid taking you back to the Italian version every time, when you click on the language selector your browser saves your choice in your device's local storage (localStorage). Here are the full details:

Type: a localStorage entry; it is not a cookie and it is not transmitted to our servers or to any third party
Possible values: it, en, fr
Purpose: to remember the language you have chosen and automatically offer you the corresponding version of the pages

Personal data contained: none. The value stored is a two-letter code identifying a language, not a person, and it in no way makes it possible to recognise, track or identify the user
If you do not use the language selector, nothing is written to your device. If you already have a saved preference and wish to remove it, simply follow the instructions in section 7 or select a different language, which overwrites the value.
5. No resources loaded from third-party domains
When a page is opened, your browser connects only to the villacassandracastellana.com domain. Style sheets, scripts, images and typefaces are all hosted on that same domain.
The typefaces Italianno, Marcellus, Outfit and Spectral are installed on our own server as woff2 files and called from the website's style sheet through @font-face rules. They are not fetched from Google Fonts: the pages do not contact the domains fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, nor any other external distribution network.
It follows that, while you are browsing the website, your IP address is not disclosed to any third-party provider. The only external party that processes technical data at this stage is the hosting provider, which acts as a Data Processor on our behalf: the details are given in sections 4.1, 8 and 9 of our Privacy Policy.
No third-party content is embedded in the pages: no interactive map, no video, no social widget, no external review system, no advertising network, no statistics tool.
6. Links to external services
The website contains a number of links that lead away from villacassandracastellana.com. They are not embedded content: none of them loads anything until you click on it.
WhatsApp (the wa.me domain, WhatsApp Ireland Limited, Meta group) — the “Message us on WhatsApp” buttons open a conversation with the property. Once the service has opened, WhatsApp's and Meta's privacy notice and cookie policy apply.
Google Maps — the “Open directions in Google Maps” link opens Google's navigation service in a new tab. No map is embedded in our pages, so no Google cookie is installed while you are simply browsing the website.
Telephone and email — the tel: and mailto: links open the telephone application or the mail client on your device, without sending any data to the website.
We recommend that you read the privacy notices of the respective providers: the Data Controller has no control whatsoever over the cookies and trackers installed by third-party websites and services.
7. How to clear local storage data and cookies from your browser
Even though this website installs no cookies, you can delete your language preference and any other data stored by the websites you visit at any time. The paths for the most widely used browsers are given below; the exact wording may vary slightly from one version to another.
Google Chrome (desktop). Menu ⋮ → Settings → Privacy and security → Delete browsing data; alternatively, to act on our website only: Privacy and security → Third-party cookies (in earlier versions, Cookies and other site data) → See all site data and permissions → search for villacassandracastellana.com → Delete.
Mozilla Firefox. Menu ☰ → Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data section → Manage Data…, then select the website and remove it, or Clear Data… to remove everything.
Safari (macOS). Safari menu → Settings → Privacy tab → Manage Website Data… → select the website and click Remove.
Safari (iPhone and iPad). Settings app → Apps → Safari → Advanced → Website Data → remove the website concerned; to clear everything: Safari → Clear History and Website Data.
Microsoft Edge. Menu … → Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data → See all cookies and site data → search for the website and delete it.
Google Chrome (Android). Menu ⋮ → Settings → Site settings → Storage (in some versions Stored data) → select the website → Clear & reset.
You can also browse in private or incognito mode: in that case local storage data are automatically deleted when the window is closed. Bear in mind that, by clearing these data, the website will forget the language you had chosen.
8. Why there is no consent banner
The Guidelines issued by the Italian Data Protection Authority on 10 June 2021 and art. 122 of D.lgs. 196/2003 require the user's consent to be obtained only for storing information, or gaining access to information already stored, on the device where that is not strictly necessary in order to provide a service explicitly requested by the user.
This website installs no cookies of any kind, and the only information saved on the device — the language preference described in section 4 — falls squarely within the category of strictly necessary tools, because it serves solely to deliver, in the requested language, a service that the user has actively asked for by clicking on the selector.
Displaying a consent banner where there is no processing that calls for one would add no protection at all: it would merely be an obstacle to browsing and a request for consent with no subject matter, contrary to the principle of fairness and transparency laid down in Article 5 of the GDPR. That is why we have chosen not to include one and to explain to you instead, on this page, exactly what happens.

10. Updates
Should we introduce in the future any tool involving the use of cookies or other trackers — for example a statistics system, an embedded map or a booking engine — we will update this page beforehand and, where necessary, activate a banner to collect consent before any non-necessary tool is installed. The version of the notice in force is always the one published at this address, with the date of the last update shown at the top.
